These three furniture pieces work the best when they are used together. Each of them would either promote usage of the other two pieces, or assist with using the other two pieces. This ecosystem provides a cohesive and effortless experience to users. Even though they work the best when together, users could also buy and use them separately and still have good experience with each of them.
We take deep considerations on materials and interactions for designing this collection. We have gone through many iterations. We want to choose material that is sustainable and also fits our design vision. For interactions, we consider streamlined interactions is crucial for designing a furniture collection.
The choice of materials was made with sustainability in mind. All control sliders and handles are made of a material called zirconia, a highly durable ceramic material that can be used for injection molding and comes in a range of colors and finishes. All the stone parts are Lapitec, a 100% natural mineral material that is 100% recyclable. The shade and lens are carbon neutral glass and frosted recycled PET, both of which are 100% recyclable, and the glass is produced using energy from solar and hydrogen, which reduces its carbon footprint. The wood is FSC certified maple and the stain is an eco-friendly wood stain. All the cables are made of bio-polyolefin. This is an alternative to traditional plastics that adds 25-20% more natural renewable content to reduce the carbon footprint.
The signature interaction is the red slider. Red slider works just like the old dial phone, it slides back while releasing. This tangible interaction feels more fun to use. To echo our design philosophy which is living free from digital lure, we use Touch Wood technology to build the interface under the wooden and stone surface. Different from digital screens, users would have more sensory experience when interacting with these natural rough surfaces.
If we had more time, we would make more mockups to test and iterate on each product. Develop an initial business plan for the set of products. Further unify the interfaces of the three products.
